Coach MU No Worry Odemwingie Began Stagnant
Marquee player Madura United (Peter), Peter Odemwingie, no longer tops the list of League 1 goalscorers. He has been evicted by Bali United’s sharp attacker Sylvano Comvalius.
Odemwingie’s goal record stops at the 13th because he has a drought in three consecutive games. After scoring against Newcastle Persiba goal in the 16th week, Nigerian players are “toothless” against Barito Putera, PSM Makassar and Persela Lamongan.
Last week, when MU met Bali United, Odemwingie was absent due to card accumulation. 36-year-old player was able to return to play when Sape Warriors often host Persija Jakarta, Monday (21/08/2017), at the Stadium Queen Pamelingan.
Coach MU, Gomes de Oleveira, admitted not concerned with the decline in productivity of the bomber. Gomes saw Odemwingie always look good and have an important role to present victory.
“My hope is that Madura United always win, regardless of whether Peter scores goals or not, Peter always plays well with the skills he has, he helps the team to win games,” Gomes said.
In addition, Gomes is also faced with the lack of permanent composition of players in midfield. In the transfer market, Madura United could bring Khairallah Abdelkbir and Cameron Watson before then released.
MU was now only able to rely on local midfielder, while waiting for the arrival of Dane Milovanovic is still in healing. But Gomes again did not panic. He believes players who have actually can perform better.
“We still have other players who are also ready to play, we will play players with more Madurese characters, players who already understand how Madura United plays,” he said.
